Older people become care home residents when they require assistance and care or they anticipate that they will need care in the near future. This report explores the role of the GP and the primary health care team in respect to the delivery of services to the care home sector.
The nature of the care homes being considered here relate to those with and without nursing beds who care for the older person. This in consequence has a bearing on the nature of healthcare services needed and provided by the GP and primary healthcare team, and the respective roles they play. The paper presents good practice examples of care delivery in care homes.
